InGaAs cameras are a special type of camera that can see the infrared spectrum, beyond the light visible to humans. This is why they're often used in food processing, where they can help us identify things that are hidden from our view.
InGaAs technology helps food processors by identifying defects, such as foreign grains, foreign material, seeds, allergens and toxins, that are hidden to the naked eye. This can provide a much deeper level of food safety, as some defects are not identifiable within the visible color spectrum but are visible when you look at the near-infrared spectrum.
An example of the power of InGaAs cameras can be seen with Bühler SORTEX, the manufacturers of optical sorting and food processing technology.
Food and agriculture have a problem. There is an increasing number of mycotoxins, poisonous substances produced by mold, which are contaminating crops. In fact, sources show as much as 25% of crops are infected by mycotoxins. The infected crops are difficult and sometimes impossible to see with a normal camera.
However, with InGaAs cameras, the infected wheat (DON / VOM / Fusarium) is visible on the Infrared spectrum. Using Bühler SORTEX optical sorters, the ‘moldy’ grain can be rejected, creating greater levels of food safety, and helping reduce the waste of raw material.
InGaAs technology is an important development in food safety. At Bühler SORTEX, we pride ourselves with being at the forefront of innovation, helping processors to achieve greater product quality, safety, and profit.

Incorporating InGaAs cameras into your optical sorting system offers a multitude of benefits:
Enhanced Food Safety:
Eliminate foreign material contamination that is invisible in the normal visible spectrum, and ensure the highest quality products reach your customers.
Improved Profit Margins:
By increasing your reject concentration, you maximize your yield, giving you more good product to take to market.
Achieving regulation standards:
Today and tomorrow, regulations are getting stricter on the contamination levels allowed in food products. InGaAs gives the ability to remove challenging defects and meet regulation standards.
InGaAs technology has been fundamental in ensuring food safety. By harnessing the power of Infrared imaging, businesses can achieve unmatched levels of precision and quality control. If you're looking to gain a competitive edge and ensure the integrity of your products, then InGaAs cameras are a future-proof investment worth considering.
